Pethsama (“we,” “us,” “our”) operates https://www.pethsama.org (the “Site”). This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, and how you can manage your information.

Who we are

What personal data we collect & why

1) Accounts & profiles

  • Data: name, email, password (hashed), profile details you choose to share.

  • Why: create/manage your account, provide services, secure your access, send service notices.

2) Comments & community posts

  • Data: what you post, IP address, browser user-agent (helps detect spam/abuse).

  • Why: publish your comment, prevent spam, maintain community safety.

  • Gravatar: An anonymized hash of your email may be sent to Gravatar to check for an avatar. See their policy: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval, your avatar may be visible with your comment.

3) Forms & messages (e.g., contact forms, feedback)

  • Data: what you submit (name, email, message, attachments), IP, time/date.

  • Why: respond to your request, support, troubleshooting, record-keeping.

4) Media you upload

  • Tip: Please remove embedded location data (EXIF/GPS) from images before uploading. Visitors may download images and extract location data.

5) Cookies & similar tech

We use cookies to run the Site and remember your preferences.

  • Comment cookies: save your name/email/website for convenience (1 year).

  • Login cookies: test if cookies are enabled; store login/session & display choices (session to 2 days; “Remember Me” up to 2 weeks).

  • Editor cookie: when you edit/publish, a cookie stores the post ID (expires in 1 day).

  • Analytics/functional cookies: to understand usage and improve the Site (see “Analytics”).

You can control cookies in your browser. Blocking some cookies may affect functionality.

6) Analytics

We may use privacy-respecting analytics and/or third-party tools to understand how the Site is used (page views, device/browser, approximate location). These tools help us improve performance and content. Where legally required, we request your consent before setting non-essential cookies.

7) Payments (if/when offered)

If the Site offers paid features or donations, payments are processed by third-party providers (e.g., Stripe/PayPal). We do not store full card details. Your payment data is handled under the processor’s terms and privacy policy.

Legal bases (EEA/UK users)

We process data based on: contract (providing the service), legitimate interests (security, analytics, improving the Site), consent (non-essential cookies/marketing), and legal obligations (records, compliance).

Who we share your data with

We share data only as needed to operate the Site and comply with law:

  • Comments & their metadata: kept indefinitely to recognize and auto-approve follow-ups.

  • Accounts: profile info is kept while your account is active. You can edit or delete most fields anytime. We may retain records as required by law, to resolve disputes, or for security (e.g., logs).

  • Forms/messages: retained for support and record-keeping as needed.

  • Cookies: per durations listed above or until you clear them.

Your rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

  • Access, correct, or delete your personal data

  • Object to or restrict processing

  • Port your data

  • Withdraw consent (where processing is based on consent)

  • Lodge a complaint with a data protection authority

California (CCPA/CPRA): California residents may request disclosure/deletion of personal information and opt out of “sharing” for cross-context behavioral advertising (we do not sell personal information). Submit requests at contact@pethsama.org.

Where we send data

Visitor comments and certain submissions may be checked through automated anti-spam and security services. Data may be processed outside your country by our trusted providers under appropriate safeguards.

How we protect your data

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures, including encryption in transit (HTTPS), access controls, least-privilege practices, regular updates/patching, and monitoring to help protect your information.

Children’s privacy

Our Site is not directed to children under 13 (or the age required by local law). We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child provided data, contact us to remove it.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles may include embedded content (e.g., videos, images). Embedded content from other websites behaves as if you visited those sites and may collect data, use cookies, or track your interaction per their policies.
